Newsweek Ranks Sheba One of the World’s Leading Specialized Hospitals

In an annual ranking published since 2019, Newsweek and Statista named Sheba one of the world’s best oncology cardiology, neurosurgery, gastroenterology, and smart hospitals.

The 7th most published medical organization worldwide, Sheba’s mission is not only to provide local patients with cutting-edge, tailored care, but also to help raise medical standards and empower our colleagues across the globe.

The Newsweek & Statista ranking

These efforts have recently garnered the attention of Newsweek, which has not only named Sheba one of the world’s best hospitals for the fifth consecutive year but also recognized its achievements as one of the best oncology, cardiology, neurosurgery, gastroenterology, and smart hospitals.

Leveraging technology to advance care

Learning of the new honors, Sheba’s Director General, Prof. Yitshak Kreiss, remarked: “At Sheba, we believe that technological advancement and clinical excellence go hand in hand. This achievement highlights our global leadership in health transformation as we leverage technology to provide each and every patient with the highest quality and most advanced treatment.”

The evaluation process

The rankings for both specialty and smart hospitals by Newsweek and Statista utilize a broad evaluation strategy that encompasses multiple factors. For specialty hospitals, the report incorporates data from a comprehensive international survey featuring contributions from more than 40,000 healthcare professionals, hospital directors, and specialists spanning 20 different countries. Feedback from esteemed medical experts and patient satisfaction metrics are also crucial elements in shaping these rankings.

In the case of smart hospitals, the ratings are influenced by professional reviews from experts in digital and information technology, as well as by industry-specific surveys. The evaluation also includes peer assessments from smart hospital experts and directors. The parameters for the rankings take into account an institution’s capabilities in deploying electronic features, telemedicine, AI, digital imaging, and robotics for healthcare excellence.

In this manner, Newsweek and Statista aim to provide a robust and comprehensive evaluation that balances peer and expert insight with empirical data.

Where technology and the human element meet

According to Prof. Eyal Zimlichman, Sheba’s Chief Transformation and Innovation Officer as well as Director and Founder of ARC Innovation, “Sheba is proud to rank among the world’s best smart hospitals. At ARC, our transformation and innovation arm, we see technology, and specifically digital health, as a strategic enabler that will allow us to transform operations and patient care, allowing us to become much more effective, efficient, and centered on human needs.”
